PASA is helping A3M raise awareness about Asians for Miracle Marrow Matches. Come by Titan Walk this Tuesday and Wednesday between 10am and 3pm and help save a life!
Some facts you should know…
- There are over 8 million people already listed on the national registry, but only 7% of them are Asian (0.7% are Filipino, and there is no registry in the Philippines)
- We are looking to register as many minorities as possible to give hope to patients diagnosed with life-threatening disorders such as Leukemia and Lymphoma
- Ethnicity is a key factor in determining a match for a patient
– Join the Be The Match registry and be the one to save a life. – You first need to match a patient before you can donate for them. To see if you are compatible enough with a patient, all we need is a simple cheek swab. No blood is involved to register.
– Joining the registry is FREE for all minorities. If you are called to donate, the patient’s insurance will cover the transplant. – Today, about 75% of donations occur in a process called Peripheral Blood Stem Cell Donation. This procedure is a lot like a blood/platelet donation.
ABOUT A3M (from a3mhope.org):
A3M Mission
A3M’s mission is to improve the health and welfare of all people by providing education and assistance while facilitating prompt access to potential marrow and blood cell donors.
Goal
A3M’s goal is to serve patients in need of matching marrow donors who could potentially save their lives by coordinating donor recruitment drives to increase and diversify the Be the Match registry. Register and help save a life. It only takes 5-10 minutes of your time.
