Sampaguita Project @ FRIENDSHIP GAMES 2010 ~ giving children opportunity

Giving children opportunity thanks to Sampaguita Project who will be at Friendship Games 2010:

At our FG booth, Sampaguita Project is going to be accepting donations of mobile phones (& chargers, etc.) that folks are no longer using. As a token of thanks, donors can choose a free gift courtesy of MyBarong.com (P-Grad stoles, hats, visors, Philippines patches, etc.) They can see more info at:

http://www.mybarong.com/sampaguita-project-giving-children-opportunity-art-1965.html

Throughout the Philippines, we see living testaments of the lack of opportunity for children of the poor. The “Sampaguita child,” often barefoot, barely clothed and selling strings of the fragrant national flower in busy intersections, has become an all-too-familiar symbol of the plight of poor children in our motherland.

Sampaguita Project was established by the founders of MyBarong.com as a means to give opportunity & hope to children who need it most. From school nutrition programs to scholarships, Sampaguita Project is dedicated to helping children develop a life of opportunity.

PNOYAPPAREL.COM PRESENTS FRIENDSHIP GAMES 2010 HALF-TIME HEADLINER: ROCKY RIVERA!

FULLERTON, CA – PNOYAPPAREL.COM proudly brings to Friendship Games 2010 headlining half-time performer: BAMBU!

Bambu, from the city of Los Angeles, has been making his mark on the Hip Hop scene for almost a decade. His first album, “self untitled…” first saw the light of day on the 10-year anniversary of the LA Rebellion of 1992 and the climb has been forward since. Soon after releasing that first LP, Bambu joined fellow Los Angeles emcee, Kiwi and Bay Area transplant, DJ Phatrick to create the now defunct, Native Guns group. After the disbanding of the group, DJ Phatrick and Bambu continued to do shows around the country and eventually built a reputation as strong live performers. Bambu dropped his follow up solo album, “…i scream bars for the children…” in 2007 and “…exact change…” in 2008. His latest project, “…paper cuts…” dropped at the end of February, 2010 and has definitely solidified the emcee as on of Los Angeles’ best.

PNOYAPPAREL.COM PRESENTS FRIENDSHIP GAMES 2010 HALF-TIME HEADLINER: ROCKY RIVERA!

PNOYAPPAREL.COM PRESENTS HEADLINING PERFORMER: ROCKY RIVERA

FULLERTON, CA – PNOYAPPAREL.COM proudly brings to Friendship Games 2010 headlining half-time performer: ROCKY RIVERA!

Rocky Rivera is a Hip-Hop journalist by day, MC by night, who found international acclaim by winning a Contributing Editor position on MTV’s docu-series “I’m From Rolling Stone” in 2007. After lacking inspiration in the literary world, she decided to finally pursue Hip-Hop as a participant, not only as an observer, and began to fill the void with thought-provoking music that you can dance to. (Think Lauryn Hill meets Public Enemy with West Coast beats) Her moniker and album theme is derived from a book entitled “The Gangster of Love” by Jessica Hagedorn, as Rocky examines love, war, and a young woman’s journey along the way.

FULLERTON, CA – Friendship Games 2010 is proud to offically present Half-time performers: PAC MODERN! PAC MODERN has a long tradtion and history performing at Friendship Games and we are proud to bring them to you again for the 25th Anniversary!

PAC Modern is a division of the PAC, Pilipino American Coalition, at California State University Long Beach. Founded by a small group of friends in hopes of using dance as an outlet for the expression of today’s youth.

Originating as a mere pre-show act for PCN – Pilipino Cultural Night, an annual theatrical production that exhibits the culture and history of the Philippine Islands through acting, dance, and song – in 1995, PAC Modern has grown into an unstoppable force, earning a respectable name within a fierce and competitive dance scene.

PAC Modern displays a wide range of dance mostly influenced by various styles and forms of hip hop. Just a few of the styles exhibited by the group includes break dancing, grooving and new school. Their performance style and choreography has been known to be unpredictable, influential, original, and innovating, with routines to prove the team’s versatility in dance.

Aside from dancing, the group also enjoys hanging out with family and friends outside of practice. They still manage to continue their education, work either part-time or full-time jobs, participate in various community events and establish friendships within the performance and competitive dance community.

PAC Modern continues to grow as a talented and dedicated family, whose positive energy will prosper for years to come. PAC Modern embraces the meaning of family and emits the essence of community to those around. Celebrating 15 years in existence, this family will strive to continue the passion, the love, and the hunger to represent the past, present, and future of PAC Modern dancers.

PERFORMING @ FRIENDSHIP GAMES 2010: Theta Delta Beta

FULLERTON, CA – Friendship Games 2010 is proud to offically present Half-time performers: THETA DELTA BETA! TDB has a long tradtion and history performing at Friendship Games and we are proud to bring them to you again for the 25th Anniversary! Theta Delta Beta is the first Filipino Fraternity to be established in California.

In 1990, a spirited group of Filipino college students attending the University of California, Irvine conceived a new organization. Ostensibly labeled as "The Dark Boyz" because of their dark skin and Ilocano heritage, they sought a community where brothers and sisters could thrive in a kinship guided by the principles of intellectual awareness, social responsibility, personal integrity, and brotherly love. In May of that same year, these seventeen founding fathers united to create "The Dark Boyz", reclaiming the label as their own. In the spirit of true brotherhood, and in jest, the brothers adopted the first letters of "The Dark Boyz", TDB, and quasi-translated them into the letters Theta, Delta, and Beta, to mimic the traditional Greek fraternal system.

What began as a lighthearted attempt to organize a closely-knit group of friends quickly grew in popularity and population into an organization spanning four chapters. After its founding in 1990 on the UC Irvine campus, Theta Delta Beta expanded to Cal State Fullerton in 1991. Three years later, they established themselves at UCLA in 1994. In 2002 a chapter was created at Cal State Long Beach. More recently, in 2008, a chapter was created at Cal Poly Pomona.

From its humble beginnings, Theta has evolved into an organization of the heart. And embedded at its heart is the unconditional love that inspired the seventeen founding fathers to create the brotherhood. The brotherhood has quickly grown into well over a hundred strong and has evolved into a true family. The name, "The Dark Boyz", that our entire family continues to embrace, with its roots and rich history, certainly fits the organization’s timeless values and culture.

Theta Delta Beta cultivates and celebrates the intellectual, imaginative and humanitarian promise of each its brothers and lil’ sisters in a family that encourages education, practices mutual respect, embraces diversity, and inspires a passion for unconditional love.

For more information about THETA DELTA BETA, visit their website at www.FullertonTDB.com.
